  • Case of the Week - Case # 33

    A 54-year-old white female presents with acute vision loss with floater sensation in the right eye.  The patient has a history of hypertension and Emergency Ultrasound Case of the Week 33high cholesterol.  She denies any trauma and is not on any anticoagulants.  You are concerned about the possibility of a detached retina in this patient and you perform an ultrasound.

  • Case of the Week - Case # 32

    A 62 year old male presents with upper abdominal pain of one hour duration. The pain began while the patient was having breakfast. He has never experienced a similar pain in the past. The patient denies any PMH but admits that he hasn’t seen a doctor in years. He admits to feeling nauseated and sweaty but denies any other complaints. On examination his vital signs were stable and his is afebrile. Abdominal examination reveals midepigastric and right upper quadrant tenderness with mild guarding but no rebound.

  • Case of the Week - Case # 31

    A 56-year-old male presents s/p MVC with multiple injuries.  His vitals signs are stable.  On exam, he has left Emergency Ultrasound FAST Casethoracoabdominal bruising and tenderness noted.  Due to your concern for possible internal hemorrhage, you perform a FAST exam.  On the FAST exam you do not note any free fluid but you note an abnormality of the spleen.

  • Case of the Week - Case # 30

    A 67-year-old male presents via EMS after being found unresponsive by the wife.  EMS reports that the patient seems aphasic and is only moving his right side.  The patient's blood pressure is 82/40 and his heart rate is 100.  The patient has a PMH of hypertension and coronary artery disease.  On examination, you confirm the findings given to you by EMS.  Due to his hypotension, you perform a medical FAST examination to better evaluate the patient.
